‘The University’s Biggest Asset Is Its People’

Dear colleagues,

The current international situation affects us all, impacting both the global world order and each of our lives.

In times of turbulence and turmoil, it is always important to remember our key values, our mission, and to follow steadfast sources of guidance.

HSE University is a national research university, and it is committed to pursuing the mission set out in its 2013 Statement of Values.

The three pillars of our university are education, science, and culture. These pillars are unaffected by time or the international situation, and the university will continue to fulfil its mission in any circumstances. This is both our duty and our purpose.

We may have different views and come from different countries and backgrounds, but we are united by education and science. For our part, we have no intention of ending our international collaborations and we are thankful to those foreign partners who remain committed to global academic values.

Today, both Russia’s government and society face unprecedented challenges and dangers. We must focus on producing new ideas and proposing to our governing institutions the most effective forms of support for the economy and people, while also working to unify and consolidate society. Our educational programmes, research work, and many different projects, along with our expertise and intellectual potential, should all now go toward Russia being as resilient as possible and withstanding all challenges that come its way.

We will continue to teach students, conduct research, and work on projects. We will continue to implement all of the university’s existing programmes and projects. We will continue to fulfil our obligations to teachers and students.

The university’s biggest asset is its people. We will preserve and foster this asset.

Today, our responsibility is to uphold university values and the university spirit. For us, it is vital to preserve an atmosphere of mutual interest, respect, and support.
