HSE St. Petersburg and University of Jyväskylä to Launch International Mobility Cooperation
The Department of History at the Higher School of Economics – St. Petersburg and the University of Jyväskylä (Finland) will begin student and teacher international mobility cooperation for the 2015/2016 academic year.
Joint Brainstorming by International Researchers
A week-long training methodological workshop 'Economic and Social Changes: values effects across Eurasia' on advanced quantitative methods in comparative studies took place in April. The workshop was jointly organized by the Eurasia Business and Economics Society (EBES), Turkey, and HSE's Laboratory for Comparative Social Research. The workshop included presentations by the members of LCSR and EBES, series of practical workshops, as well as reports of the participants.
German Week 2015 at HSE Saint Petersburg
During the XII Germany Week in St. Petersburg, the Gorky House of Scientists under the Russian Academy of Sciences hosted an international research conference ‘Russia and Germany – regional economies after sanctions,’ organized by the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and HSE.
HSE to Join SESS.EuroPhD Consortium
HSE has been officially invited to join the European PhD in Socio-Economic and Statistical Studies (SESS.EuroPhD) Consortium starting from the 2015/2016 academic year. At a recent annual seminar held in Rome, all the participants expressed a strong interest in HSE becoming a full member of the consortium.
Joint Symposium Seeks to Build Bridges between Russian and Asian Marketing and Management
As part of the XVI April International Academic Conference, HSE hosted a joint symposium of the Global Alliance of Marketing & Management Associations (GAMMA) co-organized with Korean Scholars of Marketing Science. Themed ‘Bridging Asia and Russia in Global Marketing & Management’, the event aimed to promote academic cooperation between scholars working in the fields of marketing and management in Russia and Asia. Professor Olga Tretyak (HSE), Professor Vera Rebiazina (HSE) and Professor Jaihak Chung (Sogang University) co-chaired this joint symposium. The Center for Sustainable Culture & Service of Yonsei University and Korea Economy & Management Development Institute were partners.
Mathematics and the Arts: What Does Geometry and Calculus Have to Do with Salvador Dali and War and Peace?
On Tuesday 31st March 2015, Piergiorgio Odifreddi, Professor of Mathematical Logics at the University of Turin, will give a public lecture at HSE titled ‘Mathematics and the Arts’. The lecture is held in cooperation with Istituto Italiano di Cultura, and will examine the deep and close relationships between the objects of Mathematics and of the Arts.Professor Odifreddi, who is also a well-known journalist will talk about ‘a mathematical reading of the arts’, and will present a short history of the visual arts from a mathematical perspective. He talked to the HSE English News service about the surprising connections his unusual approach reveals.
HSE Recognized by Heiskell Award for Internationalizing the Campus
On March 20, the ceremony for the Andrew Heiskell Award for innovation in international education took place in New York. The Higher School of Economics became the first Russian university to receive an honorable mention.

On March 13, the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs’ Asian Club held a meeting where Professor Makhan Lal, Director of the Delhi Institute of Heritage Research and Management and Director of the Vikvekanand International Foundation, spoke on ‘Traditional Culture and Modern India’. The XVI April International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development is scheduled to take place from April 7-10, 2015, but plans are already underway among the organizers and participants alike. Recently, Dale Jorgenson, Samuel W. Morris University Professor of Economics at Harvard University, spoke with the HSE news service about his long history of cooperation with HSE. Professor Jorgenson, an internationally recognized expert on information technology and economic growth, among other subjects, shared his expectations for this year’s conference.
