Arkhangelskoye Estate Museum Launches Open Call for Artists
The Arkhangelskoye Estate Museum is launching an open-call for the exhibition ‘Water in Art. Water in the Estate.’ The exhibition will feature paintings, graphics, sculptures, decorative and applied arts from the museum's collection, as well as works by young artists created specifically for the project.
The water features of the Arkhangelskoye estate are vital elements in the lives of the owners and the landscape itself. The territory includes fountains and a water tower, and water supply system was installed at the end of the 18th century.
The exhibition is dedicated to how symbols related to water have been embodied in paintings, graphics, decorative and applied arts, and books. Special attention will be paid to the water on the estate—from the Moskva River and Goryatinsky ponds to fountains and aqueducts.
The Contest
The contest aims to show how artists in different time periods have been inspired by water, and to take a fresh look at the estate and the exhibition theme by rethinking the traditions and collections of the Arkhangelskoe Estate Museum.
Creators are invited to participate in the preparation of projects for the exhibition both for the exhibition hall and for demonstration in the park space. The requirements for the projects can be found in the competition regulations (in Russian).

About the Museum
The Arkhangelskoe Estate Museum comprises an estate and a park. For three centuries, this manor house near Moscow belonged to the Odoevsky, Golitsyn, and Yusupov families. Prince Nikolai Borisovich Yusupov turned Arkhangelskoye into a museum with paintings, sculptures, a theatre, and its own porcelain factory. The estate has been visited by emperors, Alexander Pushkin, the artists Alexandre Benois, Valentin Serov, Konstantin Korovin, Konstantin Makovsky, the pianist Konstantin Igumnov, and many other prominent representatives of Russian culture.
In 2022, the estate’s botanical greenhouses were recreated and outfitted with an exhibition hall, a cinema lecture room, and a café. The greenhouses will now serve as a space for reflecting on the rich cultural heritage of the estate through modern art.
