For Merit to the Fatherland
On February 22nd Russian President Dmitry Medvedev awarded President of the Higher School of Economics, Alexander Shokhin the order ‘For Merit to the Fatherland’, 3rd class.
The order ‘For Merit to the Fatherland’ was founded in 1994 and is awarded to citizens for outstanding achievements related, particularly, to strengthening the Russian statehood, socio-economic development and academic and research activity. From 1994 until the foundation of the Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle the First-Called in 1998, the order ‘For Merit to the Fatherland’ was the highest state award of the Russian Federation.
During the award ceremony, Dmitry Medvedev mentioned the enormous contribution made by Alexander Shokhin in the development of national industry and entrepreneurship, as well as his long-standing public activity.

HSE Rector Turns 60
May 26 marks the birthday of HSE Rector Yaroslav Kuzminov. Although not the same age, both he and HSE are celebrating birthdays this year! At the start of 2017, IFMO Rector Vladimir Vasiliev, when presenting at the Gaidar Forum, congratulated Yaroslav Kuzminov on HSE’s 25th anniversary, saying that he was the exact same age as the University. ‘I would ask the young ladies to make note of this,’ Prof. Kuzminov quipped.
Evgeny Yasin Turns 83

This year Professor Yasin has even more reason to celebrate: not only is he celebrating his 83rd birthday, HSE is marking the 25th anniversary of its founding, and throughout that time, Professor Yasin has had the pleasure of being the university’s Academic Supervisor.

Director of the Institute of Demography, HSE, Tenured Professor Anatoly Vishnevsky was singled out for his outstanding contribution to Russian economic thought. The prize giving ceremony was in Moscow on 12th November.

Evgeny Yasin is 81
On May 7th 2015 HSE’s Academic Supervisor Evgeny Yasin celebrated his 81st birthday. There’s hardly a soul in HSE who needs to be told just how much Professor Yasin has done for the university. He isn’t only the initiator of research at HSE. It is thanks to him, and some like-minded people, that the university actually came to life. What began as a university for graduates, has rapidly, and uniquely, become one of the top universities in the country.
HSE Recognized by Heiskell Award for Internationalizing the Campus
On March 20, the ceremony for the Andrew Heiskell Award for innovation in international education took place in New York. The Higher School of Economics became the first Russian university to receive an honorable mention.
ICEF Director Sergey Yakovlev Awarded Honorary Degree by University of London
During London Graduation Ceremony, which took place on March 11th at the University of London, ICEF Director Sergey Yakovlev was awarded honorary degree of Doctor of Science (Economics), honoris causa, for the contribution to development of higher economic education and ICEF academic achievements.
