Scientists from HSE University in Perm Receive First Artificial Intelligence Patent
Aleksey Kychkin, a researcher at the Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Empirical Studies (LINES), and Oleg Gorshkov, a research assistant at LINES, received a patent for a system that predicts the spatial distribution of harmful substances in atmospheric air using an artificial intelligence unit. The invention can be used for integrated planning and notification of the risks of atmospheric air pollution by harmful substances. The work was carried out under a grant from the HSE University Artificial Intelligence Centre. The HSE News Service spoke with Aleksey Kychkin about the benefits of the new system, its application, and how it came to life.

The 10th anniversary scientific conference ‘Neighbours in Research’ was held at HSE University in Perm. This year it received the status of an international event—research was presented by scientists not only from different regions of Russia, but also from Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. The conference's key concept is interdisciplinarity, and as a result, reports were presented from various branches of science, including economics, linguistics, sociology, law, digital technologies, and neuroscience.
Perm Continues to Implement Project to Create World-Class Interuniversity Campus
As part of his working trip to Perm, HSE University Rector Nikita Anisimov visited the site where the new campus is being built, and also held talks with the Governor of Perm Krai, Dmitry Makhonin. The student campus is expected to be fully operational in 2026. The campus will house learning spaces, laboratories, a sports complex with a swimming pool, a congress hall, and a hotel complex for students and teachers.

Viktor Durov, a second-year student of the Master's programme in Digital Humanities and an employee of the Department of Pedagogics and Humanities at Voronezh State Medical University named after N. N. Burdenko, has developed an interactive virtual tour around the Museum of Space Biology and Medicine named after V. V. Antipin in Voronezh.
System to Automatically Identify Causes of Cryptogenic Stroke Under Development at HSE University-Perm
As a result of the 2023 Teacher-Student Team Research Project competition, the project ‘The Development of Automated Approaches to Identify the Aetiology of Cryptogenic Stroke with the Aim of Preventing Secondary Acute Cerebrovascular Accident’ has been created with funding from the HSE Academic Fund Programme. The project is led by Sofya Kulikova, Senior Research Fellow of the Laboratory of Interdisciplinary Empirical Studies (LINES).
‘We Have Always Loved You, Sakhalin’: Research Expedition Studies Sociocultural Anthropology of Miners' Working Life in the USSR
Researchers from the School of Foreign Languages and the Group for Historical Research, together with students of the History programme at the HSE University campus in Perm, have come back from an expedition to Sakhalin Island, where they studied Soviet industrial culture and the working life of miners. HSE University in Perm: The Upcoming Anniversary
On September 12, 1997, HSE University in Perm was established by decree of the Government of the Russian Federation. A year later, the university enrolled its first students.
