Application for HSE Minors is Open
First-year students can select a minor in their personal accounts beginning at 18.00, March 26. HSE is offering a variety of interesting minors this year, so that students can choose the right minor for themselves.
Who Should Apply for a Minor and Why
A minor represents a series of four disciplines different form the student’s major track. A minor can be complex (when all four disciplines are interconnected) and ‘free’ (students can choose a new discipline every half a year). The minor is taught during the second and third years of undergraduate studies, so first-year students (of which there are currently about 6,500) should apply for their desired disciplines now.
In their personal account, students can choose five minors, in order of priority. The minor they will eventually study depends on several factors—particularly, their academic performance and the number of students signed up for a given minor. Minors that receive at least 60 applications will be taught.

Which Minors are Open for Application
About 60 minors in 8 areas of study are available at HSE Moscow this year.
There is a series of minors in Asian Studies, the majority of which were developed by the Institute for Oriental and Classical Studies.
‘Is there anybody who is not interested in learning firsthand about archaeological excavations, the secrets of ancient civilizations, mysterious writings and their decoding, and about how characters and the first alphabets appeared?’ says Ilya Smirnov, Director of the Institute, discussing the wide range of new minors. ‘Students will also be able to delve into the thousand-year-old history of Chinese culture and reflect upon its links with the China of today, and learn more about Japanese manga, which enjoys popularity worldwide, or Eastern cinema - old and new.’
HSE’s new faculties of Chemistry and Biology and Biotechnologies completed their selection of natural science minors. The MIEM minor in technology of experimental research has been fully updated. The minor ‘Science Communications: Theory and Practice’ (prepared by the Centre for Student Academic Development) will teach students how to present their research.
Three minors 'Human Rights: Concepts and Practices', 'Russia in Comparative Perspective' and 'International Political Economy' will be taught in English.

Two Additional HSE – Moscow Programmes Receive International ZEvA Accreditation
The Central Agency for Evaluation and Accreditation (ZEvA) determined that the HSE Bachelor’s programme in ‘Sociology’ and the HSE Master’s programme in ‘Comparative Social Research’ meet international educational quality standards. Both programmes have been accredited unconditionally for six years.
HSE Student Joins Extended Ranks of the Worldskills Russia National Team

How Will the New Academic Year Start for International Students?
Classes will begin on-campus on September 1 (for some graduate programmes on October 1), and wearing masks in university buildings and dormitories will be mandatory for all students and teachers. HSE University will arrange online learning with mandatory support from professors for newly enrolled international students who are currently unable to travel to Russia.
